The Hampton Pirates basketball program has a proud history, with several NCAA Tournament appearances and key upsets that highlight the program’s competitive spirit. From the program’s early 1990s era through the 2000s and into the 2010s, Hampton has built a reputation for resilience, strong defense, and exciting college basketball moments.
In 2025-26, head coach Ivan Thomas enters his second year at the helm, bringing a fresh approach and competitive mindset to the Pirates’ lineup as they navigate non-conference play and CAA competition.
Hampton opens the season with a matchup at Milwaukee on November 3, followed by a home opener against Mid-Atlantic Christian on November 6. The Pirates will also participate in select non-conference games, including contests at Virginia, Brown, Holy Cross/MTE, and Boston College, before a strong CAA schedule culminating in the CAA Tournament in Washington, D.C. from March 6-10, 2026. The NBA HBCU Classic in Los Angeles is noted on the schedule as a major event in the season.
