People behind the production
Harold and Maude: The Musical is a romantic, intimate chamber musical adaptation of the beloved film. Composer Joseph Thalken teams with book and lyrics by Tom Jones to bring a delicate, character-driven experience to the stage. The world premiere took place at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ, in early 2005, with Estelle Parsons starring as Maude and Eric Millegan as Harold. The project grew out of a development process showcased by NAMT, marking its place in contemporary American theatre as a refined, intimate piece designed to highlight relationships and life-affirming themes.
