Originating in the early 1990s as a revolving collective, Hawaiian Style Band evolved with the addition of vocalist Robi Kahakalau, whose distinctive harmonies helped broaden the group’s reach. The ensemble’s sound fuses traditional Hawaiian chants and rhythms with contemporary pop and R&B influences, creating music that resonates with keiki and kupuna alike.
Hawaiian Style Band’s career features standout singles like Live A Little (1991), Heiau (circa 1993), and Rhythm of the Ocean (1994). The band’s albums include Vanishing Treasures (1992), Rhythm of the Ocean (1994), ’Ohana (1995), The Best of the Hawaiian Style Band (1999), and Hanau Hou (2014). Their work earned Na Hoku Hanohano Awards in the early 1990s, with multiple honors for Vanishing Treasures–era releases and a notable best-of compilation that captured their early catalog.
