Hayden, the stage name of Paul Hayden Desser, is a cornerstone of Canadian indie folk. Based in Thornhill, Ontario, he first emerged in the mid-1990s with a lo‑fi sound that blends intimate storytelling with warm guitar textures. His debut album Everything I Long For (1995) set the template for a career defined by thoughtful, unhurried songs and a distinctive, hushed vocal presence. Over the years, Hayden released a string of beloved records—The Closer I Get (1998), Skyscraper National Park (2001), Elk‑Lake Serenade (2004), In Field & Town (2008), The Place Where We Lived (2009), Us Alone (2013), Hey Love (2015), and the 2023/2024 era release Are We Good (Are We Good/Are We Good Here). The 2023 album features collaborators like Feist and Matt Berninger, with the lead single On A Beach (feat Feist). In 2025, a 20th Anniversary edition of Elk‑Lake Serenade is underway, alongside a new Ontario tour to celebrate the record’s enduring legacy.
