Heather J. Lynch is a leading ecologist and National Geographic Explorer who specializes in penguin population dynamics in Antarctica. As an associate professor of Ecology and Evolution at Stony Brook University and the first Endowed Chair for Ecology and Evolution at the Institute for Advanced Computational Science, Lynch blends satellite remote sensing, field biology, and mathematical modeling to understand seabird populations. She co-developed MAPPPD (Mapping Application for Penguin Populations and Projected Dynamics), an open-access platform that shares penguin data to advance conservation and research worldwide.
