Heisei Nakamura-za is a pioneering kabuki troupe established in 2000 by Nakamura Kanzaburō XVIII. The group revived Edo-period performance by staging intimate, portable theaters in cities like Asakusa and Osaka, and by touring internationally, including a landmark appearance at the Lincoln Center Festival in 2004. Known for blending traditional kabuki with humor and contemporary references, the troupe brings Edo-era magic to modern audiences with venues that recreate the feel of historical wooden stages.
