About the performer: Hip Hop Theater is synonymous with the blend of MCing, breakdancing, graffiti, and DJing woven into theatrical storytelling. The movement gained prominence with the Hip-Hop Theater Festival, founded in 2000 by Danny Hoch, which helped bring hip-hop theatre to venues across the United States and internationally. The festival evolved into Hi-ARTS (Hip-Hop Arts & Theater), re-emerging in 2011 with a focus on residencies and programs for hip-hop and urban theatre artists in NYC. Danny Hoch’s work has earned two Obie Awards, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Sundance Writers Fellowship, and the CalArts/Alpert Award in Theatre, underscoring the critical and artistic impact of this genre.
