Biography
Ho Etsu Taiko originated from a shared passion for taiko drumming in Chicago, growing out of the Midwest Buddhist Temple. The founders, Lynne and Jerry Matsumoto, nurtured a community that emphasizes educational outreach and cultural exchange. Today, under the direction of Jason Matsumoto, the ensemble continues to expand its impact through performances, workshops, and community programs that bring taiko to new audiences.
Musical Style
Ho Etsu Taiko merges the traditional, energetic cadence of kumi-daiko with contemporary influences. Expect a dynamic range that nods to jazz improvisation, Latin percussion textures, and hip-hop inspired grooves, all rooted in Chicago’s diverse artistic landscape.
