The Holmes Brothers were a defining force in American roots music, blending blues, gospel, soul, R&B, and Americana with lush vocal harmonies. Hailing from Christchurch, Virginia, this legendary trio—Popsy Dixon, Wendell Holmes, and Sherman Holmes—built a sound that resonated across generations. Active from 1978 through 2015, the group's members left lasting legacies, with Sherman continuing to record and perform in various capacities. The Holmes Brothers earned critical acclaim, including Blues Music Awards for Band of the Year (2005) and Soul Blues Album of the Year (2008), and were honored with the NEA National Heritage Fellowship in 2014.
