The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble ( Magyar Állami Népi Együttes ) preserves and presents traditional Hungarian folk dance and music with contemporary dance-theatre elements. Founded in 1951, the ensemble has grown into a cornerstone of Hungary’s cultural landscape, blending age-old melodies and dances with modern stagecraft to tell vivid stories of Hungarian life. Since 2016, the company has been led by director Gábor Mihályi and artistic director István Pál Szalonna, guiding a program that celebrates regional folk traditions while inviting choral and orchestral collaborations for expansive, cinematic performances.
