Based in San Antonio, UIW competes in the Southland Conference and plays home games at the McDermott Convocation Center, a venue with a loyal, intimate atmosphere and a capacity of about 2,000. Since beginning the Division I transition in 2013, the Cardinals have built a competitive program that reached its first Division I postseason appearance in 2025, advancing to the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
