Ink & Dagger formed in 1995 in Philadelphia, created by Don Devore (also known for later projects) and Sean McCabe. The duo’s sound merges punk and hardcore with gothic, heavy theatricality, drawing influence from underground loud-aux genres while crafting a distinctive stage persona—vampire imagery, ritualistic presentation, and dramatic live energy. Their early studio work culminated in two notable records that helped define their sound: The Fine Art of Original Sin (1998, Initial Records) and Ink & Dagger (2000, Buddyhead).
After years of negotiation with the changing landscape of independent music, Ink & Dagger reemerged with renewed interest in 2010 due to a reunion with Geoff Rickly at the helm for select performances. The band’s 2025 catalog revival, led by Trust Records, reissued key titles and expanded the catalog with a deluxe box set titled The Complete Works, slated to ship in March 2026. These releases offered fans a retrospective that celebrates the band’s unique blend of bite and theater, while continuing to attract new listeners to their provocative live approach.
