Inti-Illimani forms a cornerstone of the Nueva Canción Chilena movement, rooted in Santiago in 1967. The group became a symbol of social and political expression through folk, Andean, and contemporary world music. After the 1973 coup in Chile, the ensemble went into exile across Europe and Italy, returning home in the late 1980s. Since 2004, the group has branched into two factions, Inti-Illimani Histórico and Inti-Illimani Nuevo, each continuing to record and perform with a shared legacy of memory, resilience, and vibrant sound.
