Intonations: Songs From The Violins of Hope is a contemporary classical song cycle that intertwines Jewish melodic elements with modern vocal and instrumental textures. The piece was composed by Jake Heggie with librettist Gene Scheer, and texts drawn from the Violins of Hope narrative—stories of instruments recovered from 20th‑century Jewish life that survived the Holocaust. This genre-blending work features a mezzo-soprano, solo violin, string quartet, and youth violin, originally lasting about 40 minutes, and later arranged for orchestra.
