Istanbul Notes is a collaborative film project directed by Özlem Sarıyıldız and Yunus Emre Aydın that blends documentary storytelling with cinematographic improvisation inspired by Maqam, the Ottoman classical musical system. Filmed in Istanbul, this genre-bending piece explores sound, city, and memory through intimate performances and observational filmmaking. The documentary debuted in 2016 with a runtime of approximately 69 to 70 minutes, inviting viewers to experience the sonic landscapes of Istanbul’s musical heritage.
