Janam is an Oakland-born path-blending group known for its hip Balkan rhythms, Appalachian ballads, and lush vocal harmonies. Since forming around 2008, core members Juliana Graffagna (vocals, accordion) along with collaborators Dan Auvil, Tom Farris, Gari Hegedus, and Shira Kammen have crafted an inventive folk fusion that draws from Balkan, Near Eastern, Gypsy, and American roots traditions. Their sound rests on intimate acoustic textures, modal melodies, and harmonies that invite close listening and shared moments on stage.
