JD Pinkus is a versatile musician whose career spans iconic alt-rock acts and inventive solo projects. As the longtime bassist for the Butthole Surfers from 1985 to 1994, and rejoining the band in 2009, he helped shape a sound that merged raw energy with boundary-pushing arrangements. In 2018, he joined the Melvins, contributing to the Pinkus Abortion Technician era and expanding his footprint in modern underground rock. Beyond the bass, Pinkus explores spacegrass banjo, blending cosmic textures with earthy grooves. He’s released a string of projects that showcase his wide range—from rollicking, tongue-in-cheek collaborations to serene, experimental banjo explorations.
