Jorge Morel (born Jorge Scibona in Buenos Aires, 1931) was a foundational figure in modern classical guitar, known for expanding Latin-influenced repertoire and blending tango, samba, milonga, choro, and other Latin styles with jazz harmonies. After moving to New York, Morel became a respected performer, composer, and educator, shaping a generation of guitarists with his expressive writing and virtuosic playing. While his official touring slowed after 2021, his impact continues through recordings, arrangements, and ongoing scholarship on his catalog.
