Joseph Colaneri has shaped contemporary opera across major stages in the United States and Australia. A fixture on the Metropolitan Opera roster since 1998, Colaneri brings a wealth of experience from years of conducting, musical leadership, and festival direction. As a trusted insider in the classical scene, he’s guided productions from the Met’s celebrated repertory to intimate festival performances. He has also left a lasting mark as the former Artistic Director of West Australian Opera (WAO) from 2012 to 2014, influencing programming and development in Perth. Since 2013, Colaneri has served as Music Director of the Glimmerglass Festival, overseeing mainstage operas and related projects. In 2025, he conducts Tosca at Glimmerglass (July 11 – August 16, 2025) in the Alice Busch Opera Theater, and remains integral to the festival’s vibrant lineup, which includes modern and classic works like Sunday in the Park with George, The House on Mango Street, The Rake’s Progress, and Odyssey. His discography highlights include the 2021 live recording The Ghosts of Versailles, conducted with Orchestre de l’Opéra Royal for Château de Versailles Spectacles CVS036.
