Kaneza Schaal's KLII is a groundbreaking mytho-biographical performance that confronts colonial history by exorcising the ghost of King Leopold II. Created and performed by Kaneza Schaal, KLII blends archival materials with the voices of East African musicians and African American opera singers to create a resonant, historically informed artistic experience. The production features original sound design by Camila Ortiz and Ian Askew, and draws from texts including Mark Twain’s King Leopold’s Soliloquy and Patrice Lumumba’s 1960 independence speech, with a historical reference to La Muette de Portici. This is more than theatre—it's a passage through memory, sound, and performance history.
