Keeled Scales started in 2014 in Austin, Texas, founded by Tony Presley and Seth Whaland. What began as a small operation dedicated to nurturing intimate indie and folk music has grown into a respected home for artists who carve out contemplative, bright, and self-assured sounds. In 2021, Keeled Scales entered a joint-label partnership with Polyvinyl Records, while maintaining creative control—keeping the essence and direction of the roster intact. The Austin Chronicle named Keeled Scales the 'Best Quiet Giant' in 2021 for its tastemaking influence and robust artist lineup. The label has released 60+ albums from artists like Buck Meek, Katy Kirby, Lunar Vacation, and Sun June, among others. In 2025, Emily Hines joined the roster, signaling a continued, active cycle through 2026 with new releases and ongoing signings. Keeled Scales continues to publish roster news and release announcements on its site, keeping fans in the loop about a growing slate of projects.
