Koukos, born in 1960 in Athens, is a pivotal figure in Greek contemporary music. Trained at the National Conservatory, he studied piano under Tony Georgiou and pursued composition with Dimitris Dragatakis and J. A. Papaioannou. His work bridges expanded tonality with Greek literary and theatrical sensibilities, placing rhythm, vocal lines, and textual prosody at the center of his sound. Over the years, he has shaped Greek music culture through leadership roles and influential positions across festivals and opera houses.
