LaBute New Theater Festival, established in 2013 by STLAS in St. Louis, is a premier platform for world-premiere, previously unproduced one-act plays from emerging professional playwrights. Each night during the festival, writer-director Neil LaBute contributes a new piece, contributing to a dynamic, high-energy experience that spotlights fresh voices in theatre. The festival bridges St. Louis and New York, featuring venues like The Gaslight Theater in St. Louis and Davenport Theaters, as well as the 59E59 Theaters in New York City. In its 11th year (2025), the festival runs July 11–27 with productions in both cities. A commemorative collection, Unlikely Japan and Other Plays: Ten One-Acts from Ten Years of the LaBute New Theater Festival, marks a decade of bold, contemporary theatre.
