Founded as the Mary Jo Wobker Memorial competition in NYC between 1989–1992, the organization expanded nationally and gained major sponsorship in 1999 from Bud Light. Known as the \"CareerBuilder for Women in Comedy,\" they have helped launch or spotlight top talents like Amy Schumer and Melissa Rauch. Their signature Funny & Fabulous Tour celebrates female voices in stand-up, improv, and sketch comedy.

In 2023, they released the first all-women comedy recording from the Friars Club, Ladies of Laughter From The Friars Club, featuring 11 tracks and showcasing a legacy of witty, fearless storytelling.
