The Lafayette Wildcatters represent a unique chapter in Louisiana sports history. Founded in 2008 and launching their inaugural season in 2009 as the Acadiana Mudbugs, the franchise rebranded to Lafayette Wildcatters for the 2010 season. Playing at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana, they competed in the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) from 2009 through 2011, earning playoff appearances in 2009 and 2010. Under the guidance of head coaches including John Fourcade and Skip Foster in 2010, the team faced a cancellation in 2011 due to insufficient Workers’ Compensation Insurance, and the SIFL subsequently dissolved. While there’s no active touring schedule or current operation for the Wildcatters as of 2025, their legacy remains part of Lafayette’s sports and indie football history. We’ve got you covered with a clear snapshot of their journey, notable moments, and how to explore related Louisiana sports history.
