Loretta Swit, born in Passaic, New Jersey, is a celebrated performer with a career spanning television, stage, and advocacy. Trained as a singer and actor in New York, Swit became a cultural icon for her portrayal of Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan on M*A*S*H (1972–1983), earning two Primetime Emmy Awards (1980, 1982) among ten nominations. Beyond television, she has an extensive stage résumé, including acclaimed runs in Same Time, Next Year; Shirley Valentine; The Mystery of Edwin Drood; and Mame productions.
