Marc Shaiman, born October 22, 1959 in Newark, New Jersey, is a prolific composer, lyricist, and performer known for his expansive work across Broadway, film, and television. A long-time collaborator with Scott Wittman, Shaiman co-wrote the Broadway musical Hairspray and its award-winning film score, earning a Tony Award for Best Original Score. His career spans scores and songs for major films like Mary Poppins Returns, The Bucket List, and Sleepless in Seattle, as well as television and live theater projects. He co-created Smash and the Broadway adaptation of Some Like It Hot, showcasing his talent for bridging stage and screen.
