The Mariinsky Theatre, rooted in Saint Petersburg’s cultural landscape since 1860, stands as a beacon for world-class ballet, opera, and orchestral performance. Originally founded as the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre, the company has evolved through the years—renamed Leningrad, Kirov, and finally the Mariinsky since 1992—while maintaining a commitment to artistic excellence and groundbreaking premieres. Today, the theatre houses three resident companies: the Mariinsky Ballet, Mariinsky Opera, and Mariinsky Orchestra. Under the leadership of artistic director Valery Gergiev since 1996, the institution expanded with the Mariinsky II and a dedicated Concert Hall, further enriching its international reach.
