Martin Atkins is a pivotal figure in industrial and post-punk music, renowned for his versatile work as a performer, producer, and educator. As the founder of Invisible Records (1988) and Mattress Factory Studios, he has shaped independent music culture and helped launch careers across genres. Atkins also founded the Museum of Post Punk and Industrial Music (PPIM), a Chicago-based institution recognized for its cultural impact with a 2023 Arts & Culture award. His career spans collaborations with PiL, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Killing Joke, Swans, Nadjia, Opium Jukebox, Pigface, and more, making him a cornerstone of modern alternative music.
