Founded in 1999, Mercyhurst’s program quickly grew into a national contender. The Lakers earned multiple NCAA Tournament appearances from 2005 through 2014, including Frozen Four appearances in 2009, 2010, 2013, and 2014, and were NCAA runners-up in 2009. Home ice is the Mercyhurst Ice Center in Erie, PA, a venue known for its intimate atmosphere and strong fan engagement.
Head coach Michael Sisti has led the program since its inception, guiding the team to a lasting culture of hard work and tactical discipline. The team has produced standout players over the years, including Meghan Agosta — CHA Player of the Year (2009) and a list of All-CHA recognitions — and Emily Janiga, who was CHA Player of the Year and CHA Scoring Champion in 2015.
In conference play, Mercyhurst moved from GLWHA (2000-2002) to the CHA (2002-2024) before transitioning to Atlantic Hockey America starting with the 2024-25 season. The program continues to compete at a high level while expanding its rivalries and fan footprint across the region.
