Welcome to the official Mick Moloney performer page. A pivotal figure in Irish American music, Moloney shaped the soundscape of traditional Irish and American folk from the 1970s onward. Born in Limerick, Ireland, he moved to the United States in the early 1970s and became a central figure in the Irish American music scene. He co-founded The Green Fields of America in 1977, a rotating ensemble that showcased Irish traditional music with a broad American roster. Moloney’s work spans a rich discography and influential collaborations, earning him recognition including the NEA National Heritage Fellowship in 1999 for lifetime achievement in folk and traditional arts. While tour activity effectively paused after his passing in 2022, memorial events and fundraisers continued through 2023–2025, culminating in the 2025 Mick Moloney Memorial Concert in New York City. Below you’ll find a detailed biography, discography highlights, and information about ongoing tributes and memorial performances.
