People behind the production
Rooted in a storied lineage of Chinese acrobatics, the New Shanghai Circus Acrobats embody a lineage that began in 1951 as the Shanghai Acrobatic Theatre. Evolving into the New Shanghai Circus as a touring company under the Shanghai Magic Troupe, this group has consistently pushed the boundaries of traditional acrobatics with contemporary stage production. Their performances marry time-honored skills with high-energy storytelling, featuring aerial acts, contortions, plate spinning, juggling, and dynamic group routines. Since their Broadway debut in 1999, cited as Best Foreign Production on Broadway for The New Shanghai Circus, the troupe has maintained a reputation for spectacle, precision, and emotional resonance on stage.
