New World Youth Orchestra, originally founded in 1982 as the New World Chamber Orchestra in Indianapolis by Susan Kitterman, is a landmark in the Midwest’s classical scene. Over the years, the ensemble expanded into three groups, undergoing a series of name changes before adopting a city-connected identity. Their first Hilbert Circle Theatre performance in 1993 showcased a mission to nurture young musicians while presenting inspiring live performances. In 2020, the organization began operating under the Indianapolis Youth Orchestra name to reflect its strong ties to the city.
