Next Music from Tokyo Tickets

Next Music from Tokyo (NMFT) is a dedicated platform and touring project that showcases Japanese indie bands in Canada. Founded by Steven Tanaka, a Toronto-based anesthesiologist, NMFT brings a curated mix of indie, post-punk, shoegaze, and hardcore sounds to North American audiences. The project is known for its well-received live runs, sold-out shows, and international recognition from media outlets like Time Out Tokyo and Destination Vancouver.

NMFT operates as a collaborative, non-pretentious hub for Japanese underground music, delivering high-energy performances and thoughtful artist development. Their branding emphasizes a genuine, no-fuss approach to connecting fans with compelling live music from Japan’s thriving indie scene.

As of Vol. 17 (Sept 2025), NMFT continues to expand its footprint across major Canadian cities, with a scheduled tour that highlights the strong demand for Japanese indie and shoegaze-inflected sounds in North America. Vol. 18 is already announced for Sept 2026, continuing the ongoing tour cycle and artist lineup exploration.

Vol. 17 lineup brings Haku, Tattletale, Carpenter’sBlue, and Banshimoku to Canada’s live stages. The Toronto run features two nights at Horseshoe Tavern (Sept 19–20, 2025), followed by Montreal’s Café Campus (Sept 22, 2025) and Vancouver’s The Wise Hall (Sept 24–25, 2025).
