The North Texas Mean Green Baseball program has a storied history in Denton, Texas. UNT launched varsity baseball in 1984 and competed in the Southland Conference before the program was discontinued after the 1988 season due to Title IX equity concerns. Mack Park in Denton served as the home field during that era. While UNT explored revival in the mid-2010s with a budget line discussed publicly, accounting and financial considerations prevented the revival from becoming official varsity baseball. Today, the Mean Green Baseball Project continues as a booster effort aiming to bring D1 baseball back to UNT within roughly 3–5 years from 2023, and to pursue a new on-campus stadium. As of early 2026, UNT’s official athletics site does not list a current baseball program, but renewed interest and social media activity indicate ongoing revival efforts.
