Nydia Caro is a celebrated performer whose career spans more than five decades in music and acting. Born in New York City on June 7, 1948, she moved to Puerto Rico as a young artist and became a pioneering figure in Latin pop. A trailblazer for Puerto Rican artists in international competitions, Caro earned the distinction of being the first Puerto Rican artist to win the OTI Festival in 1974 with Hoy canto por cantar. Her early hit Cuéntale (1973) helped establish her as a vocal stylist with broad appeal across genres.
