Oraltorio is a groundbreaking two-woman performance that blends the ancient cadence of griots with contemporary hip-hop and sci-fi-inspired soundscapes. MOTION writes and performs, while DJ L’Oqenz provides the music and sound design, under the direction of Mumbi Tindyebwa Otu. This show pulls from Afro-diasporic storytelling traditions to create a vibrant, forward-looking theatre piece.

Born from a world premiere in 2016 as part of The RISER Project at The Theatre Centre in Toronto, Oraltorio has been celebrated for its bold fusion of narrative, music, and movement. The 2018 remount at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts (Soulpepper/Obsidian Theatre) solidified its Canadian premiere footprint, earning Dora Award nominations for its engagements in both years. The production has also captivated audiences at Soulpepper/Obsidian in Toronto and CINARS in Montreal, and it has travelled to Ghana’s Chale Wote Festival, expanding its international reach.
