The Orchestra and Chorus of Emmanuel Music, based in Boston and in residence at Emmanuel Church, is a unique ensemble dedicated to the liturgical performance of Bach cantatas and the creation of contemporary motet commissions. Founded in 1970 by Craig Smith, the group is now led by artistic director Ryan Turner, with guest conductors featured during the Bach cantata season (2025–26). The ensemble has completed Bach cantata cycles twice, and their work has earned invitations to prestigious events such as BachFest Leipzig in 2024. Since 2020, Emmanuel Music has premiered a number of motet commissions initiated by Emmanuel, enriching the canon of sacred choral literature.
