People behind the production
The Orchestra of Tangier presents a revered lineage of Moroccan-Arabic Andalusian music, rooted in the Nuba-based repertoire that has shaped the musical identity of Tangier and the broader Maghreb. Led by Cheikh Ahmed Zaïtouni, founder of Tangier’s Conservatory and a respected master of Moroccan Andalusian music, the ensemble performs with a traditional eight- to sixteen-piece configuration. Gathered around intricate melodies, intricate percussion, and soulful vocal lines, their performances offer an authentic listening experience that connects centuries of Andalusian heritage with contemporary audiences.
