The musical character
OrKidstra Drum And Dance is a transformative Ottawa-based youth ensemble that blends percussion, dance, and community music education. Since its founding in 2007, the program has grown from 27 children to a thriving community of 750-800 participants aged 5–18. OrKidstra provides free instruments and music lessons to children from equity-deserving communities, helping every young musician find their rhythm and voice.

Beyond local performances, OrKidstra has featured on national stages, including the JUNO Awards broadcast and Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill. The organization collaborates with the National Arts Centre (NAC) Orchestra on outreach and touring projects, and its impact has been recognized with the Music Educator of the Year award at the Capital Music Awards (OMIC) in May 2025.

In 2025, OrKidstra members performed for King Charles III and Queen Camilla during their visit to Ottawa. The ensemble also participated in the Notes of Love program with the NAC Orchestra in February 2025 and contributed to an international NAC-side-by-side tour to Korea and Japan in May–June 2025, with performances in Busan, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, and a send-off concert in Ottawa on May 20, 2025.
