Born March 24, 1947 in Indiana, Pennsylvania, he studied at the Manhattan School of Music and began making waves with the Paul Winter Consort before co-founding Oregon. As a founding member, McCandless helped shape a sound that blends jazz, folk jazz, world music, and new age into intimate, exploratory performances. His work has earned multiple Grammy recognitions and continues to inspire listeners and fellow musicians alike.
