Pepe Romero, born in Málaga on March 8, 1944, is a cornerstone of modern classical guitar. As a member of Los Romeros, often described as the 'Romeros quartet,' he helped redefine the instrument’s repertoire and reach. Knighted in 2000 as a Knight of the Order of Isabella the Catholic, Romero’s career spans decades of premiere performances, collaborations, and recordings that blend traditional classical guitar with flamenco inflections. His work has featured commissions by renowned composers, including pieces written specifically for him by Joaquín Rodrigo and others, underscoring his role in expanding the instrument’s literary and expressive range.
