PhazeFest is a distinctive voice in Washington, DC's LGBTQ+ music scene. Emerging from the PhaseFest/PhaseFest tradition founded in 2006 by Angela Lombardi, the project began at Phase 1, a historic lesbian bar on Capitol Hill. Over the years, PhazeFest (also styled as PhaseFest) has brought together LGBTQ+ artists, dance-floor energy, and community-driven performances across iconic DC venues such as the 9:30 Club and the Black Cat. While the festival has seen several revivals, the most notable shift occurred in 2017 with a revival at the 9:30 Club featuring acts like the Coolots and Homosuperior, signaling a renewed interest in the festival format. Today, PhazeFest remains a touchstone in DC’s queer music legacy, celebrated for its inclusive spirit and enduring influence, though recent activity has been limited and archival coverage remains essential for fans and researchers alike.
