Phlegm emerged from Providence, Rhode Island in 1988, carving out a niche in death metal and grindcore with gore-themed lyrics. Though the band ceased activity in the mid-1990s per Metal Archives, Phlegm left a lasting imprint on underground metal with raw demos and early EPs that would influence the genre. Their last credited label is Necroharmonic Productions, known for preserving extreme metal histories. Fans today can trace a lineage from early demos like Satan's Rectum (1988 Demo) through to the 1991 Masterpiece of Mutilation and the 1991 Consumed by the Dead, with a 2015 compilation bringing renewed attention to the material. For ticket buyers, Phlegm remains a compelling live act for fans of unapologetic, brutal underground metal.
