Pierce Freelon is a multi-haceted performer, educator, and community leader whose work blends music, storytelling, and Afrofuturist themes. A Grammy-nominated artist for Best Children’s Album (Black to the Future, 2022), Freelon has shaped a generation of young listeners through engaging performances and thoughtful, accessible education. He co-created Emmy-winning Beat Making Lab for PBS, and leads Jamming on the Job, a PBS Kids project that has grown from a podcast to live tours and stage productions. Based in Durham, North Carolina, Freelon champions arts education, civic engagement, and inclusive storytelling through Blackspace, the organization he founded to empower youth and communities to imagine and build a better future.
