Pittsburgh Festival Opera (PFO) is a community-rooted company delivering intimate, American-focused opera beyond traditional concert halls. Founded in 1978 as Opera Theater of Pittsburgh by Mildred Miller Posvar and Helen Knox, the company rebranded to Pittsburgh Festival Opera around 2017, embracing a mission to present bold, accessible performances in up-close settings. Led by General Manager/Artistic Director Marianne Cornetti, PFO curates programming that spotlights American voices and contemporary storytelling, with a commitment to nurturing emerging talent through prestigious opportunities like the Mildred Miller International Voice Competition.
