Michael Donaldson, widely known as Q Burns Abstract Message, is a versatile electronic musician whose work spans ambient, downtempo, and dance-informed textures. Early in his career, Donaldson released influential records such as Feng Shui (1998) and Oeuvre (1998) on Astralwerks, followed by Invisible Airline (2001). These albums helped establish a sound characterized by cinematic atmospheres, precise percussion, and a willingness to traverse sonic boundaries.
Under various aliases—Q-BAM, M. Deshay, Montage Men, Dubmarine, and Qubes—Donaldson produced a steady stream of material that would later be released on the 8D/EightDee/Eight-Track labels, including Balearic Chainsaw (2011) and Chainsaw (2010). His remix work in the early 2000s, such as Re-Routed: The Invisible Airline Remixes (2002) on Eighth Dimension and Future Past Tense - Remixes (2004), showcased his talent for reinterpreting contemporary electronic music with a signature melodic sophistication.
In 2007, Nectar Vol. 1 appeared on Agave Records, continuing Donaldson’s exploration of cross-label collaborations and innovative sound design. By 2019, he released AUDIOTOTEMPOLE on 8D Industries, affirming his position as a forward-thinking producer with a global listening audience. The Grottoes project, unveiled in 2022, marks another evolution in his creative journey, inviting fans into a more expansive, immersive sonic world.
