Ravinia Jazz Mentors Tickets

The Ravinia Jazz Mentors were founded in 1995 to mentor Chicago Public Schools students through the Jazz Mentor Program, a cornerstone of Reach Teach Play. Today, the eight-member ensemble leads workshops, conducts masterclasses, and delivers performances that connect seasoned Chicago jazz veterans with aspiring young musicians. Led by Pat Mallinger, with notable figures like Pharez Whitted and Bobby Broom among its ranks, the group embodies a commitment to artistic excellence and community education.

Based in the Chicago area, the Jazz Mentors bring a blend of deep tradition and contemporary insight to every show. They perform as a cohesive unit and occasionally join as guests for special events, including high-profile Ravinia appearances where they share the stage with celebrated artists while continuing their educational mission.

Upcoming engagements include a Ravinia Jazz Mentors performance on April 4, 2025 at Bennett Gordon Hall, alongside master class opportunities for CPS students. They will also join as guest artists at Diana Krall’s Ravinia show on June 22, 2025. Although individual members have discographies with Pat Mallinger, Pharez Whitted, Bobby Broom, and Richard Johnson, there is no separate Jazz Mentors studio album. For fans and students alike, the Jazz Mentors offer a reliable source of Chicago’s evolving jazz scene, with frequent masterclasses and performances that highlight mentorship, technique, and performance integrity.
