Robert Wynia co-founded Floater in 1993 with David Amador and Peter Cornett in Eugene, Oregon. Over the years, Floater built a dedicated fanbase with a distinctive blend of alternative rock, psychedelic textures, and hard-hitting melodies. Wynia’s lyrical storytelling and dynamic vocal delivery anchor the band’s sound, earning them multiple awards and recognition in the Northwest music community.
In addition to his work with Floater, Wynia has released solo material and collaborative projects under Rob Wynia / The Sound. Notable releases include Brave the Strange (2017) and Iron By Water (2011), which showcase his versatility as a writer and performer. Wynia’s Night Walks project, released in 2020 as Night Walks / The Sound, presents a soundtrack-focused body of work now available on Bandcamp, offering a moody, cinematic listening experience.
Floater’s impact has been acknowledged with induction into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame in 2017 and wins as Willamette Week’s Best Band in 2009 and 2010. Wynia remains an active touring artist, shaping new live experiences while honoring the band’s influential catalog.
