Biography
Born Matthew Smith on August 22, 1994, in St. James, Jamaica (the Montego Bay area), Rygin King emerged as a distinctive voice in reggae and dancehall. He launched his recording career under the banner of Rygin Trap Records, delivering a string of singles from 2018 onward that helped him develop a loyal following across Jamaica and the Caribbean. His 2022 debut album, Therapy, debuted at #11 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart and earned the Best Reggae/Dancehall Album award at Jamaica’s awards circuit, a recognition reported by local outlets including the Jamaica Star. He followed with a strong sophomore effort, Recovery, released on June 14, 2024, featuring collaborations with Damian Marley and Chronic Law. In 2025, his touring presence expanded with Bounce Musik Festival Tour appearances in the U.S. (Georgia, New York, Connecticut) and shows in Jamaica and St. Maarten, continuing his momentum on international stages.
